“Why are you so slow?” Laura said, trying to pull me away from the wooden railing.

“Would you stop? I’m going to fall and break something. Do you want me to walk down the aisle with a cast and crutches?” I said, holding myself up with a death grip.

Laura laughed and let go of my arm. “You’re such a baby. Just let go, you’ll be fine,” she said, then gave me one last eyeroll before she skated off, leaving me in harms way.

Logan was across the pond talking and laughing with Theo, Laura’s husband to be. I would have gone over there to talk to him, too, if I ever let go of this stupid railing. I’d tried a few times, but ice-covered ponds were even less forgiving than I’d remembered.

A while later, Logan made his way over to me, showing off his superior skating skills. “Bragger,” I muttered at him as he maneuvered through the throngs of people currently on a continuous loop around Cherry Blossom Pond.

“You lost your skating legs?” Logan asked with a grin on his winter-chilled face.

“Guess that happens after a decade.” I glared at him, wishing he’d fall or at the very least, trip.

He pried one of my hands off the metal bar. “Come on, Kitten. You just forgot. Give yourself a few minutes and it’ll all come back.” His other hand pulled loose my only remaining anchoring grip.

“Logan, I’ve already fallen three times,” I said, my breath hitching with panic.

The big jerk just threw his head back and laughed at me. “You’ve turned into such a chicken. Come on, I promise not to let you fall.”

He skated backward as I attempted to push forward with his guidance. His eyes reflected the white lights that were strung all around the pond. “Everything looks so pretty up here.” I nodded briefly toward the skating shack where some lucky people were warming up.

“Did Etta manage to keep this up?” I asked, concentrating harder now as Logan went a bit faster.

“Nope, it was trashed, too. This was my first project. Laura had mentioned how nice it would be to have it opened again in time for her and Theo’s wedding.”

My heart nearly burst at his thoughtfulness. “That was a really sweet thing to do, Loggie.”

His face erupted with a sexy smile. “Don’t call me that.”

“Loggie,” I said, unable to stop myself from teasing him. He laughed and started moving faster—thus forcing me to also skate quicker.

Feeling more than a bit uneasy and whole lot wobbly, I squeaked out, “Loggie, slow down!” right before I completely lost my footing.

I started falling backward, but Logan’s hands immediately wrapped around my torso and pulled me close. The motion was too swift, causing me to push him back. Down we went, me landing with a loud, “Oof,” on top of him.

“I told you to slow down,” I said, thumping my pink mittens on his chest.

All Logan did was bust out laughing. “How can you possibly be this bad of a skater now? You and I spent hours out here on this pond.
