Mirror

A man can rightly be called a mirror of the universe, since all things can be reflected in his mind, but the universe cannot be called a mirror for man, since nothing that he sees in it can show him what he is. (See also under Hui-neng).

The following also bears on this subject:

“To prove they aren’t nobodies Men resort to externals.

Could anything be more comical?

Then there is the ostentatious neglect of externals.”
