Chapter 14

ASPEN

Why is this so hard?

All I want is to choose the perfect outfit. Tonight, is my first date with Huxley and I’m freaking out. My room looks like a tornado has ripped through it. I’ve tried on three outfits and I can’t decide which one to wear. Every time I ask, Hux won’t tell me where he’s taking me. He said it’s a surprise. So here I stand in my bra and panties no closer to a decision than I was when I started trying on clothes two hours ago.

“Brynn!”

She comes running to my room. She stops in her tracks when she enters. “What in the hell happened in here?”

I throw my arms up in exasperation. “I don’t know what to wear.”

“Ok. Calm down and show me what you have tried on so far.”

I do as she asks and show her. The first outfit I tried on was a black dress that hugs all my curves and fits like a glove. While I liked how it fit me, I worried about how my cleavage was on display and didn’t want to look like a slut. The second was a simple pair of black skinny jeans with a sheer red top. I put it on and quickly realized that it might be too casual. The final outfit was a pale-yellow sundress with white daisies. To be honest, the sundress was my favorite.

“The sundress,” Brynn says.

“Are you sure? Doesn’t it scream naïve virgin?”

Brynn shakes her head. “It’s perfect. Go put it on.”

he hands me the dress and I go into the bathroom to do as she asked. A few minutes later, I emerge and when she sees me a smile spreads across her face. “Yep, that’s the one. Oh, and I have the perfect shoes.” Brynn runs to her bedroom. I take another look at myself in the mirror. The contrast of the pale yellow with my dark hair is striking. She’s right, this dress is perfect.

Brynn returns with a pair of white wedges that match the dress perfectly. She sits them down in front of me and I slip my feet into them. The shoes have a three-inch wedge and gives me added height. Brynn comes to stand behind me and pulls my hair back on both sides.

“Do you have any clips?” she asks.

“Yeah, in the left top drawer under the sink.”

She goes into the bathroom to grab them. She comes back putting the clips in my hair.

“Damn you look good girl. If I didn’t love men so much, I would give you a go,” she says giving me a wink. A laugh escapes me, and she joins in soon after. We are still laughing when the doorbell rings. Brynn squeals before leaving my room to answer the door. I take a few breaths attempting to calm my racing heart.

I leave my room and enter the living room to find Hux standing beside Brynn. He hasn’t seen me, so I take a minute to ogle my man. He’s wearing a dark blue suit that fits him perfectly.
