When people learned I had joined a call centre they have a different kind of mindset. Probably, they think I work on those hotline services and all. They cannot believe that we actually deal with UK customers, recording their account details, and that people inquire about their own accounts. This is the perception they have.

(Sangamitra, 25, GCall)

Well, we come from a very patriarchal society in India. The common lot is not very liberal towards women working at night. There is a fair amount of scepticism about what kind of job it is that these women are doing. I know people who would say, ‘Oh you talk over the phone? What kind of talk is it? What kind of customer care? Is it any kind of friendly calls that you are making or receiving?’

(Nisha, 24, NCall)
