THERE’S A WELL-KNOWN fable in which a tortoise and a hare had a race. The hare, though favored to win, became overconfident because he underestimated the tenacity of his opponent. The tortoise was victorious, because, as the moral goes, “slow and steady wins the race.”

I’m sure that the tortoise enjoyed the hare’s company, but when he went home that night, he was probably really glad to have another tortoise who appreciated all of his strong points, someone he didn’t have to prove himself to.

Kaphas are very much like the tortoise when it comes to relationships. They tend to be attracted to one another because they love to feel understood. They are very sweet people, kind and sensitive. They are also grounded in reality. They can see themselves in another Kapha and relate to one another with few words. They’re completely comfortable together.

When two Kaphas get together, it’s like a savory stew simmering in a Crock-Pot. It’s not the fireworks that you get with Pittas or the “rush” that Vatas experience. Instead, the relationship is gentle, patient, loving, and warm. It takes a long time to get there, but then it lasts forever.
