Handling Criticism

Anyone who claims they’re not hurt by criticism is a damn liar. Artists and writers put so much effort—and so much of themselves—into their creative work that having it dismissed with one cutting remark in a review, on social media, or in a workshop is demoralizing. Believe me, I know. Years ago, one of my favorite professors said to me during a class break following a workshop of one of my short stories, “What were you thinking?” Ouch!

So, give in to the pain and even wallow in it for a few days. But, don’t allow someone else’s reaction to undermine your self-confidence or, worse, block you from doing what you love. You’re a Game Changer, and you’re on a mission!
