A Hard Lesson Learned
Roseanne was a producer on my television program, The Pet Psychic, and weâve been friends ever since. Between her and her mother, they had eight Jack Russell terriers, and Roseanne never left home without at least one of them at her side.
One day she called me in tears. Sheâd been walking two of her dogs, Juno and James, on expandable leashes in New York City. They had stopped at a red light, but Roseanne didnât have her thumb on the control button, and Juno ran out into the street and was hit by a taxi. She picked her up in one arm and James in the other, and a woman in a car who had seen what had happened told her to get in and sheâd drive them to the vetâs office. Sadly, however, Juno had such serious internal injuries that Roseanne had to put her to sleep.
Of course, Roseanne blamed herself for using the expandable leash because she knew how much I hate them and how dangerous they can be. But, I told her, thereâs no point in making yourself feel worse than you already do. Yes, those leashes are stupid and I hate them, but you know as well as I do that Junoâs time was up and there was nothing you could have done to change that. We all come into this world for a reason, and when the time is right our souls return to the spirit world. There are no accidents, however it might seem to us.
Still, she was absolutely sobbing, and then Juno started to come through. I told Roseanne that I could see she was with her other dogs who had passed over, and she said that the dogs who were still with her were grieving for Juno. Yes, I said, animals grieve the same way we do. They miss Junoâs physical body, but they know sheâs okay in the spirit world. And then I said, Roseanne! Puppetâs coming forward! Puppet had been with Roseanne all the time when I was doing the TV show, and we had made her our mascot. Now she was running all around me. She was an amazing soul, and I loved her as much as Roseanne did. Oh, Sonya, she said, wasnât she wonderful!
So we reminisced a bit about what a great dog Puppet had been and how much we both loved her, and then I said, Roseanne, sheâs got Juno with her.
Oh, she said, that makes me feel a lot better. And I do know sheâs still with me.
Well, I said, I wish you could see her in spirit. All your dogs are running around together and jumping over each other. And now your aunt is coming through, and sheâs got a black dog with her.
Oh, Roseanne said, she really loved that dog!
Well, I said, sheâs telling me that sheâs very happy to be over there with him. And now sheâs picking Juno up and giving her a big kiss.
Knowing that made Roseanne feel better, but she said, I just keep seeing that picture of her being hit by the taxi.
