MASTER TIP
My dog run was fine, but the clasps on the tie-out were a bit bulky, more appropriate for a medium-sized dog than a cat, so I purchased a 10-foot cat tie-out cable to replace it. This was shorter than the included tie-out, but turned out to be the perfect length. The tie-out barely touches the ground and allows about two feet of lateral movement.
MAKE YOUR OWN MOBILE TIE-OUT
A mobile tie-out is a great solution for those who can’t install an aerial dog run. The problem with most tie-out options is that they require you to put a stake in the ground or tether the tie-out to a stationary object like a tree. That doesn’t allow much flexibility and cats get bored quite easily if you don’t allow them to move from one spot to another.
A mobile tie-out provides flexibility and offers the following benefits:
• Provides a simple way to tie your cat out in the yard
• Your cat learns that when he comes to the end of the leash that’s as far as it can go in that direction, this aids in teaching your cat to follow your lead in cat walking
• Move from place to place easily and quickly
• Share time with your cat while working outside
• Perfect for vacations, camping, or other outdoor events
• No stake to set
• Can be used indoors or outdoors
• Take it with you wherever you go
Here’s how you can make a simple mobile tie-out. You will need:
• A full or empty paint can. You can buy empty paint cans at your local hardware store or paint store.
• Stones, dirt, or play sand.
• A 10-foot tie-out cable. Find a tie-out cable that’s made for cats or small dogs so the swivel clips and cable are not unwieldy for your cat.
