MAKES ABOUT 10 BUNS

INGREDIENTS

½ tsp saffron threads

2 Tbsp hot water

1 Tbsp yeast

1½ Tbsp sugar

5 Tbsp warm water

1¼ cup buttermilk

2 Tbsp butter, unsalted

1 tsp salt

½ cup currants

3 cups self-rising flour, divided

1 egg
