NABRINK, GÉ (1903–93) Dutch anti-militarist and pacifist.

The IISH, Amsterdam, has an extensive collection of Nabrink’s organisational archives and correspondence covering the years 1945–75.

NAEGELEN, MARCEL-EDMOND (1892–1978) French socialist politician. Governor-General of Algeria after 1948. Minister of Education, 1946–48.

There are papers (1939–66, 14 cartons) in the Archives Nationales (ref. AP 518). The collection includes personal papers, photographs, publications, material on Algeria, his 1953 presidential candidature and papers on Europe, Germany, Poland etc.

NAK, PIET (1906–96) Dutch Communist. Organiser of February strike in Amsterdam, 1941. Chairman, Vietnam Committee (in 1960s), Palestine Committee etc.

The papers have been placed in the IISH, Amsterdam.

NAPOLITANO, GIORGIO (1925– ) Italian communist politician and President.

There are papers in the Gramsci Institute. The collection, covering the period 1950–90 – also with earlier and later documents – includes work-related papers on various subjects; in particular, papers on foreign politics of the Partito Comunista Italiano – Italian Communist Party.

NATALI, LORENZO (1922–2000) Italian politician. Minister of Agriculture. Vice-President of the European Commission. Campaigner for human rights.

Six files of speeches and other material are in the EUI, Florence.

NAU, ALFRED (1906–83) German social democrat.

There are extensive papers (28 metres) in the AdsD, Bonn.

NEDZYNSKI, STEFAN (1919– ) International trade unionist. Assistant General Secretary, ICFTU, 1961–64. General Secretary, Post, Telegraph and Telephone International (PTTI), 1964–89.

His reminiscences and other papers are in the Modern Records Centre, University of Warwick (ref. MSS 159 addtnl).

NAHM, PETER-PAUL (1901–81) German editor and State Secretary. 1949–52 Head of the Hessen Ministry of Interior (Department for social policy), 1953–67 Federal State Secretary for Asylum-seekers, War Prisoners and Displaced Persons, 1969–70 Federal State Secretary for the Interior (Department for displaced persons).

The papers are in the ACDP (1 metre). The collection consists mostly of correspondence and material relating to his position as State Secretary; notes, correspondence with the minister (1963–67), newspaper articles, speeches and interviews particularly regarding policies on displaced persons (1932, 1946–67).

NEEF, FRITZ (1913–79) German economist and State Secretary. 1949–68 Federal Ministry of Economics, State Secretary since 1963, 1968/69 Federal State Secretary in the Ministry for Nutrition, Agriculture and Forestry, joined CDU in 1967, 1974 executive member of the Praesidium.

The papers are in the ACDP (3.75 metres). The collection consists mostly of speeches, lectures, publications and interviews (1963–79), material related to the Federal Ministry of Economics and the Federal Ministry for Nutrition, Agriculture and Forestry, particularly correspondence and commentary on agricultural policy (1967–69), and private correspondence, e.g. with Hans Martin Schleyer (1945–79).

NEIERTZ, VÉRONIQUE (1942– ) French socialist politician and minister. Deputy for Seine-Saint-Denis, 1981–2002.

Papers concerning her ministerial work were deposited in OURS in February 2002. The papers cover the period 1988–93.

NELLEN, PETER (1912–69) German Christian Democrat and then social democratic politician. At first teacher. Joined CDU 1946. Member of the Bundestag (CDU) 1949–60. Resigned from the CDU over foreign and defence policy disagreements. Joined the SPD Bundestag group and represented the SPD until his death.

The AdsD at the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, Bonn, has a large collection of Nellen’s papers from the years 1960–69. These concern Federal matters (laws), Church questions (especially the relations between the SPD and Catholics), conscription and atomic weapons.
