Saturday dawned bright and sunny, almost as if to make up for the hovering storm cloud of paparazzi and scandal-sheet reporters in the lobby of the Nantucket Hotel.

Danni made her way through the lobby to the elevators, carrying a box of doughnuts and a thermos of coffee. She was headed up to meet Adler and her bridal party. To be honest, Danni wasn’t sure she was needed, but she had wanted to ensure that Adler was beyond happy with not only her product but with her customer service. So, when Adler had texted to ask if she minded stopping by the bakery and bringing doughnuts and coffee to the suite, Danni had texted back an enthusiastic “of course.” She didn’t mind and would love to do it.

She was here for business. In fact, last night she should have been schmoozing at the rehearsal dinner instead of going on a date with Leo. She’d heard that Toby Osborn had given an unscheduled performance. The two people who were talking about it in front of her in line at the doughnut shop mentioned that some of his music industry friends had been there, too.

A part of Danni had wondered if maybe she should be going after that crowd for business. She hated to think in clichés, but most musicians did wear a lot of jewelry. But she wasn’t really boho chic. She never had been. She was too preppy for that. And she knew it. Which was why she was schlepping doughnuts and hoping to cultivate some of Adler’s more sophisticated bridesmaids as future clients.

She rapped on the door to the suite, and someone Danni didn’t know opened it. The woman motioned for her to come in while talking loudly into her phone. The woman nodded toward the other part of the room, and Danni headed over to find the bride and her maid of honor sitting together and chatting.

“Hi,” she said, looking for a spot to deposit the doughnuts and coffee thermos before turning back toward them.

“Hey, Danni,” Adler said, standing up and coming over to greet her. “You’re a lifesaver. This is Iris. Have you two met?”

“Not officially,” Iris said. “I love the bracelet you designed for me to wear today.”

“Thanks. It’s nice to meet you. I feel like I know you because I’m a huge fan of your show,” Danni said. “I hope that didn’t sound weird. I just meant it’s great to meet you in person.”

Iris laughed. “It’s totally cool. I have done the same thing a million times. Tell me more about your jewelry business.”

“Well, I have a few products in stock that I made in bulk and sell from my web shop, but I prefer to do custom work. That’s where my main focus is, trying to grow that side of the business. I’m hoping to have a little storefront of my own one day,” Danni said.

“I can see where that would be possible. Your designs are really unique, but also the quality is top-notch. When you’re ready to open your store, look me up.
