Chapter Nine

Arlowe

I smile when I blink my eyes open the next morning and come face to face with a sleeping Yates. He looks so peaceful in his slumber, and I study him for a moment. His eyelashes look so long as they rest against his cheeks.

His hair is hanging over his forehead and in casual disarray from my fingers. I smile as I remember all the times I ran my fingers through his locks or gripped it as he moved inside of me.

His bare chest is on full display thanks to the sheet falling to his waist and I bite my lip as I take in all of his muscles and tanned skin. For a guy who sits at a desk for most of the day, he sure is ripped.

I want to run my fingers over his body, to trace the lines of his muscles and record them to memory. I don’t want to wake him though so instead, I slip out of bed and tiptoe into the bathroom.

I need to be getting into work soon but I hate to leave him. I wish that I could crawl back into bed and curl up next to him, but I need to make sure that the renovations are on track.

I grab my phone and check the time. I’m surprised to see that it’s close to ten am. I guess all of the sun and fun yesterday tired me out.

I hurry to tug on some clothes and lean over to kiss Yates on the cheek before I jog down the stairs. I wonder if I should leave him a note but can’t find any paper.

I’ll just text him once I get to work.

It isn’t until I’m setting my bag down in the ceramic shop that I realize I don’t have his number.

It shouldn’t be that big of a deal. I’m sure I’ll see him tonight.

I try to push all thoughts of him from my mind as I get to work. I put the ceramics that were painted the other day into the kiln to bake and then pull out my iPad to check social media. I have things scheduled until the end of the week, but I need to take some more pictures now that the tables and shelves have been put up.

I’m grabbing my camera out of my bag when the door opens and Lena pokes her head in.

“Hey!” I greet her and she grins.

“We should put a door or something in the wall there. It would make sneaking over here easier,” she jokes.

“I’ll bring it up to the owners,” I tease and she laughs.

“Yeah, I’m sure they’ll go for that.”

“What are you doing over here?” I ask and she shrugs.

“The bakery is pretty slow right now. Everyone is over in Maple Bend. I saw your car and thought that I would bring you over some coffee and a sweet treat.”

“Oh, you’re amazing!” I say, happily taking the takeout cup of coffee and wrapped donut.

I unwrap the donut and take a big bite, moaning as the sugar hits my tongue.
