Olivia and Brock spent some time in Pixie’s home, searching for anything that could connect her to any of the victims. The entire apartment was filthy, and it took some time to get the partygoers to clear out so that Olivia and Brock could take a look around, but even when the apartment was emptied out, their search came up somewhat short.

None of the things that had been reported missing by Brandon showed up. It was a long list of items to check out, and yet it quickly became clear that Pixie hadn’t taken anything that had been reported missing. However, Brock did locate a handful of jewelry that had become a tangled mess in a dish beside Pixie’s mattress. When Olivia contacted Brandon, he said he recalled that Kristen had lost some a while back.

“Honestly? She had so much stuff that it was hard to keep track,” Brandon said. “And I don’t care about the stolen stuff. If Pixie didn’t kill my wife then she can have everything she owned for all I care. What else am I going to do with it now?”

“I don’t think Rebecca would want to hear you say that…”

“Then don’t tell her,” Brandon said shortly. “Look, if nothing else comes up, just leave Pixie alone. She’s messed up enough as it is.”

But it was Olivia’s job to investigate, and so she pushed on, though she didn’t think she would find much else. The whole place was a mess, and the haze of smoke didn’t make it any easier to investigate, but Olivia knew they weren’t there to make a drug bust. It wasn’t like these people had anything to lose anyway. Their drug-fueled lives didn’t affect anyone else. For most of them, it was all they had.

But then Pixie told Olivia something that complicated things further. As Olivia was questioning her lying in the bathtub, Pixie began to babble.

“It’s not a big deal… I took a few bits and bobs from that rich lady. No one noticed, right?” she said, rolling her eyes. “It was never worth very much. I pawned half of it to get money for some drugs, so I know the value pretty damn well. I should’ve taken something better. I had my eyes on some of her shoes. Um… why are you looking at me like that?”

Pixie’s admission only complicated things even more. If half of her stolen stuff was elsewhere now, then they had no way to know if the missing items Brandon had reported were among the pawned items. Olivia thought it was unlikely, considering it had been a while since Pixie left their employment, but unless she could be certain, they still wouldn’t know if their killer was also a thief. Without that key piece of information, it was going to be much harder to build a profile of who they were dealing with.

Eventually, when the day dragged into the night, Olivia and Brock left Pixie’s bedside and headed back to their hotel to get some rest. In the morning, they dressed and prepared to go back and investigate more.
