Chapter Seven

“Wait. Wait! Will you stop!” Cameron pulled back hard, since his attempts at yanking his wrist out of Iver’s hand wasn’t working.

At least he finally got the man to stop moving.

All the same, Iver didn’t look back at him. The man brought his free hand up and pinched the bridge between his nose. “I thought you were gone, and I didn’t know where you were.”

“I was with Joey the entire time. We’re friends, you know. We hang out.”

“Apparently you’ve both done more than that,” Iver snapped, and he finally turned to look at Cameron.

Cameron sucked in a hard breath, but his voice was small when he did finally manage to speak. “You know about that?”

Iver looked away from him, and when his eyes landed on their hands and he realized he was still gripping Cameron’s wrist, he abruptly let go. “Joey told Duncan, and Duncan told me. Forget I said anything, it was before you came here and not my business. What I’m angry about is that I told you not to leave your room, and when I went to check on you, you were gone.”

“So?” Cameron said, crossing his arms. “The other omegas are allowed to walk around now. Why can’t I?”

“They still need escorts, and it’s different with you.”

“Because Clyde’s my cousin? For Christ’s sake, he’s so much older than I am. It’s not like we grew up together or something. We were never friends.”

“That’s not the only reason and you know it,” Iver snapped, rounding on Cameron and glaring at him.

Cameron could’ve backed up into the wall, made himself look like a weak omega submitting to someone stronger, but he wasn’t going to do that. He wanted to see just how far he could take this.

“Because I was ordered to kill whoever wanted to rape me up here? You really need to get over that.”

A hard push slammed into his chest, and he was shoved against the wall. His head hit the stone, but it didn’t hurt, not really. Not when he was staring up into Iver’s angry gaze.

“We were going down there to make a peace treaty! Don’t you dare accuse us of wanting to force ourselves on you! You were the ones who were going to try and kill us when we couldn’t defend ourselves!”

“Because we were ordered to! You would’ve done the same thing!”

“No! I wouldn’t have!” Iver snapped, and his fingers were digging a little deeper into Cameron’s shoulders.

“You fucking liar! I know all about your last high dragon! He ordered you to kill werewolves all the time! And you’re going to make me out to be some bad guy because I was in the same position!”

Iver removed his hands from Cameron’s shoulders, and that horrible glare was back on his face. “Yes, I did do things I didn’t want to on command, but here’s the difference, I got back at my former high dragon by helping to kill him the first chance I got. If Joey hadn’t stepped in and said something, you would have killed me.
