Gilliam: I don’t think it’s an anti-audience assault, but I agree that it’s an assault on the senses and sensibilities. That part about the Kafka, Kubrick, and Katzenjammer Kids sounds pretty good! If he’d liked the film, this would have been a really good review. But he didn’t like it. His descriptions are wonderful. It’s just the conclusions he comes to. And ‘sadomasochistic moviemaking’? Brazil is like a Rorschach test. It brings out all the secret desires of the critics. This is probably a great thrill for him.
