Artful Activity 2 | Scribble Challenge Drawing

Get the wheels of your brain turning with this drawing activity that works as well one-on-one as it does with a family or other group.

For ages 3 and up

MATERIALS

Drawing paper

Pens, crayons, or markers

Timer or hourglass (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Each person starts with a sheet of drawing paper and a drawing implement, and scribbles something abstract on the paper.

2. Everyone hands their scribble to the person to their left (or just swaps with someone).

3. Set the timer for a predetermined time, perhaps two to three minutes.

4. Each person finishes the drawing they’ve been handed, using the scribble as a starting point. If the scribble reminds you of a fish, you can draw a fishbowl or an ocean. If the scribble reminds your child of a cloud, she can finish the scene with mountains or a house. Anything goes. Younger children may continue with abstract drawings or just color in the scribbles.

5. When the timer goes off, drawing stops and the group shares the finished drawings.
