Ex-Plymouth Devonport & South Western Junction Railway 0-6-2 T, number 757, Earl of Mountedgecombe, eases a short pick up freight around a curve in Callington goods yard c.1947. The PD&SWJR was one of the lines connected to Col Holman Fred Stephens, who was involved with the lines’ construction and fitting out. The independent railway had four Locomotives originally, two Hawthorne Lesley 0-6-2 tanks, a single Hawthorne 0-6-0 tank and a solitary 0-4-2 saddle tank, reconstructed from an 0-4-0 saddle tank, that was originally 3ft 6"gauge. The Hawthorne Leslie products, lasted well into Southern and British Railways days, both the 0-6-2 tanks, not being withdrawn until the late 1950s. (J.H. Aston)
