Addie and Foster werenât wasting any time since becoming engaged. Their wedding planning was full steam ahead, and theyâd recently purchased a newer and larger house. It was in a neighborhood with large lots and had a work shed in the backyard for Foster to make furniture.
Addieâs slow globe collection dominated one wall in their new house. All of them were displayed inside the case Foster had built for her. This home was stunning and was so them. Cozy and welcoming despite its large size. I couldnât wait to add their future kids to my nieces and nephews. I didnât know if Iâd ever have another or what my future held, but I was grateful that I was surrounded by friends and those friends had the cutest kids on the planet.
I was sitting on a couch holding Nico, one of Zoeâs twins, as she nursed Aubrey. I maneuvered Nico until I could snag one of the chips from my plate and dip it in the small queso bowl Zoe and I were splitting. I took a bite and Zoe laughed.
âDid you just get chip dust on my sonâs head?â
I cringed. âI didnât mean to! But thereâs queso and I have to have it while itâs warm. Besides, the little guy is still sleeping.â I softly brushed the top of his head just in case Iâd accidently gotten a few crumbs on him.
My spine tingled like I was being watched. I stole a peek over my shoulder and caught Colt staring at me. His gaze was smoldering and intense. From across the room, I could tell that he saw me, but I saw him too. I knew he was thinking about my text messages earlier teasing him about going bare under my dress today. I shivered under his gaze. Excitement raced through me. I bit my lip to keep from smiling and turned back to Zoe.
She was peeking underneath the blanket over Aubrey. I looked under it as well, at that sweet face. I nudged Zoeâs shoulder. âGeorgia would be so proud of you,â I whispered. âYou did good, Zo. She wanted you to live, and look around you. This is your life.â
Zoeâs head fell to my shoulder. Our friendship had survived for over twenty years. Weâd lost each other for a while, but I knew that wouldnât happen again. âItâs a pretty great life, Mak. What about yours though?â
âI have no complaints. Iâm happy and have everything I need.â
She sighed. âWhy wonât you date? I wonât pretend to know what it was like for you to lose Declan. I canât even fathom how I would wake up in the morning if I lost Ridge. I love him so much.â Her eyes welled with tears. âEven talking about itâ¦â She shook her head as she trailed off. âBut itâs been years, Mak. You deserve to have someone in your life.â
âIâve dated.â
âYouâve gone out with guys who have nothing to offer you. Who you know will waste your time. Donât bullshit me, Mak.
