I woke up early the next morning and managed to sneak out of bed without waking them. I used the main bathroom to shower and pulled on a pair of jean shorts and a tank top. Unfortunately, I still didnât have any panties. Iâd have to find the new phone Wes brought me last night and text Carly to find out when I could expect the order she placed for me to arrive.
The smell of freshly brewed coffee tickled my nose as I went downstairs. Papa Joe was already sitting at the counter, a steaming cup of coffee in front of him as he read the paper. âI should have known youâd be the first one out of bed, girlie,â he said in greeting as I pushed the door open.
âMorning, Papa Joe,â I said, kissing his head as I made a beeline for the coffee maker.
âAny idea why there are ass and handprints all over the hood of Mrs. Rostenfeldâs car?â he asked as I poured my coffee and almost spilled it.
âUmm, Iâm not sure,â I said, turning red, âbut Iâll make sure it gets washed before she gets it back.â I tried to school my expressions as I turned to face him, blowing on my coffee to cool it down before taking a sip.
âSee that you do,â he said with a knowing look and a twinkle in his eyes. He nodded his head back toward the breakroom. âGo take a look,â he said. I entered the breakroom and saw a new locker beside the other lockers along the left wall. When I got closer, I realized it had my name on it. I felt an excited rush as I set my coffee down and opened the locker. Inside was a gray coverall that matched the same one the others wore, with my name stitched onto it. I grinned as I pulled it out and slipped it over my clothes. I grabbed my coffee and went back to the office.
When he saw me, Papa Joe gave me an approving nod and a smile. âMuch better.â He shoved a box of donuts sitting on the counter over to me. âWhen youâre done with breakfast, the work orders are on the wall. Iâd suggest you start with Mrs. Rostenfeldâs oil change.â
âYes, sir,â I said, blushing again. I wolfed down a couple of donuts, finished my coffee, grabbed the clear plastic bag with her paperwork and keys, and got to work. I was looking over a Focus I had on the lift that was brought in because it kept stalling when I heard what sounded like a stampede on the stairs leading to the apartment.
âWillow?!â I heard Fisk yell as the door swung open and slammed against the wall. Before I could answer, I saw him run into the office with Milo and Carter hot on his heels. âDad, have you seen Willow?â Papa Joe pointed toward me through the big window, and I gave them a small wave when they turned and saw me in the bay.
