Chapter 11

Seth couldn’t stop himself. Carl’s lips were too tempting, especially after Carl licked them as he wiped Seth’s mouth with a napkin.

He drew closer and closer until their lips locked. Carl’s soft, warm ones caressed his. Seth’s hand that gently held Carl’s chin moved to the back of Carl’s neck, his fingers sinking into his thick dark hair as it nestled on his skin.

Seth’s body became electrically charged, his lips relishing the kiss as much as his heart. He wanted this with every fiber of his body and soul, and he would let himself sink deeper into this paradise if he didn’t listen to the voice of reason screaming in his head

But unfortunately, it was louder than anything he’d ever heard. It drew him out of bliss.

Breaking away, bowing his head, he confessed, “I’m so sorry. I never meant that to happen. I let my feelings get the better of me.”

He stood and walked to the window. He peered out at the street. The rain glistened in the streetlights’ halo as it descended. It appeared like a shower of sparkles. So beautiful.

He heard a cup clinking, and then Carl walked toward him. His gentle hand came to rest on Seth’s shoulder. “It’s okay, Seth, really.”

Shaking his head, he reprimanded himself. “No, it’s not, Carl. You haven’t gotten past your husband’s death. You work for me and we’ve become good friends. I shouldn’t have risked our friendship and work relationship with what I did.” He turned to face him. “I hope I haven’t jeopardized things between us and that you’ll forgive me.”

Carl’s gaze was clear and penetrating. His eyes seemed to reach right to Seth’s heart. It cut right through him. Carl shook his head. “There’s nothing to forgive. Yes, I will always mourn Robert, but I’m not still in mourning. I want to move on and I couldn’t think of a better person I want to do that with than you.”

Carl gazed at Seth’s lips while he stood on his tippy toes to kiss him. The taste of sweet coffee on his supple lips had Seth craving more. Usually he took his coffee black, but now that would change after tasting Carl’s lips.

Wrapping his arms around Carl’s waist, he pulled him close, their chests crushing together. Carl’s lips parted giving Seth passage to his mouth. He probed daringly, taking his time to savor the same sweetness from his lips in a concentrated state.

Seth’s appetite grew by leaps and bounds.

He not only wanted to taste more of this heavenly man, but to touch, see, and hear more. His hands began to roam over Carl’s back, this man’s muscles contracting and relaxing under his fingers. Carl’s pants and moans told Seth whatever he was doing was pleasing Carl. It spurred him to go further. He let his hand slip daringly from Carl’s back to the buttons on the front of his shirt.

Unbuttoning two, he slid his hand into Carl’s shirt. The sparse hair on Carl’s chest tickled his skin. Carl’s heartbeat pounded against his palm.
