The Official Guide of the Railways provided operating schedules and descriptions for each railroad in service. It was published monthly and widely used. The July 1929 issue, the cover of which is shown here, contains a page with an illustrated SD&A route map stating “On Your California Trip See Carriso Gorge.” (SDMRM.)

In 1929, another challenge reared its ugly head for the plagued railroad. Mexico rescinded permission to run trains at night! Freight, responsible for a substantial portion of revenue, only ran at night. Hence, SD&A’s bottom line was seriously threatened. This chap in front of the Tijuana depot did not have to wait long for a train, though, since the stoppage was fairly brief. (PSRMA-CAV.)
