Chapter Eight As fate would have it, Terrence performed very well the following week when Mandy Barrillo was the guest judge. Priscilla said his song was a perfect "fit" for him, Rocko said he'd raised the bar that week and Marco raised his eyebrows when Mandy mentioned on live television that he'd known Terrence's mother and that he was proud to see him performing in the competition.

Terrence was a little embarrassed by Mandy's comment. A good performance was a good performance, though. He had worked hard that week, preparing and rehearsing one of Mandy Barrillo's best-known songs from the '70s. As the show gained more popularity in the mainstream, the producers thought it best to keep them in a more private, secluded setting.

The locker room was quiet and practically empty, which meant Terrence could walk around in nothing but a short, white towel without looking out of place. He frowned at first, because it was practically deserted. But he did take his time stripping down while a guy two benches away prepared to take a shower. He was the only man there. He looked to be in his early thirties, tall and thin and tan, with long hairy legs.
