Chapter 18

Thia

Jackson gets the movie cued up on the laptop. I picked out The Holiday, even though I didn’t finish The Goonies. I felt bad making Jackson watch it again so soon.

The opening credits play, and I lay my head on Jackson’s chest again. Without the exhaustion pulling me to sleep, I think I might make it through the majority of this movie. Although, Jackson’s cedar scent is distracting me from what’s happening on the screen.

It’s tough not shoving my nose into his chest and taking a deep breath like a fucking weirdo. I’ve shown enough of my crazy for a lifetime; I’d rather not add to it. My hand starts to wander across his chest. The valleys and hills of his muscles are seriously sexy. I would’ve thought they’d be intimidating, given my history, but all I feel is safe in his thick arms.

“Thia,” Jackson grumbles.

“What?”

“You know what.” He grabs my hand. “Stop that.”

“Why?” I try to keep my tone innocent. I don’t think it works, based on Jackson’s huff.

“You’re distracting me from the movie. Now, pay attention.”

“But I could recite this movie verbatim without even watching it,” I counter.

A deep sigh falls from his chest, and I can’t help grinning against him.

“If you’re laughing at me, there will be consequences.”

“What kind of consequences?”

“Not the fun kind.”

I frown. “What’s the fun kind?” This time I’m not teasing. I legitimately don’t know the difference. I look up at him so he knows I’m being serious.

He clears his throat. “Well… fuck. Why do I feel awkward?” With a shake of his head, he seems to gather himself. “I guess the fun kind could look however you wanted it to, but by the end, you’d get an orgasm. The not-so-fun kind would be getting nothing at all.”

“Huh.” My brain starts to conjure up an image of Jackson bringing me to orgasm, and suddenly, my entire body is flushed with warmth.

“I don’t know why I even said that. It’s not like I’d ever actually follow through on my threats. I swear. I was just being silly.” He clenches his jaw to stop his torrent of words.

“Why wouldn’t you follow through on your threat? I think that could be kind of fun.”

His eyes flash to mine in surprise.

“Let’s talk about what those consequences could look like that end in me getting an orgasm.” My tone is teasing, but I’d quite enjoy that conversation.

“Jesus, fuck,” Jackson groans, making me laugh. “That’s it.” He flips us over so suddenly, I gasp.

With my eyes wide, I stare up into Jackson’s heated gaze. “Is this what you wanted from me, you little minx? To push me until I had no choice but to act?”

I shrug. “Not entirely, although I’m not going to complain. I do know you’d never push me to do anything I wasn’t ready to do. Right now, I’d like to explore a little more of your sexy body and see how it feels to let you explore mine. Are you game?”

Jackson blinks down at me for so long I’m worried I shocked him into a stupor.
