anatomy – rib system

The primary anatomy of the structural systems is the arcing glue laminated ribs. As a bending and cupping shape, the individual ribs form an outer bulge and taper that complements the inner figure. The depth of the member provides an inner and outer face that creates a double shell and facilitates the interstitial ventilation and exhaust of hot air. Their radial position establishes a circular inner space that celebrates the centralized plan while producing a geometric complexity to the vernacularly referential form. Both a signifier and performative form, the bulging shape exaggerates the weight and complexity of the building’s detailing while providing a solemn simplicity to the overall composition.
