Chapter 19

When Jimmy parked his car in the driveway of his home and shut off the engine, he turned and faced Drake. He was leaning against the window of the passenger side. He had his eyes closed and he looked like he was in a lot of pain.

“You’re hurting,” Jimmy said quietly, reaching up and touching Drake’s cheek with the back of his index finger.

“I will be fine,” Drake told him, never opening his eyes.

“Geez, Drake! Please, don’t lie to me,” Jimmy said, frustrated, lowering his hand and slapping at his thigh. “We’re a team now. What hurts you, hurts me. I want to be there for you and help you just like I want you to be there for me and help me when I need it.”

Drake opened his eyes and turned his head to look at his mate and smiled softly. “I will be there for you—always,” he promised.

“Then you need to let me help you. It’s my turn to be there for you.”

Drake reached out and took gentle hold of Jimmy’s hand, rubbing the pad of his thumb over Jimmy’s knuckles. “I would be honored to have you be there for me, little one. Please accept my apology. I did not mean to hurt you by keeping my pain to myself.”

“You are in pain,” Jimmy said, a little afraid by Drake’s admission.

“Do not worry, aheri,” Drake said gently, stopping him. “It is the natural progression of the bonding. My body is changing.”

Jimmy’s violet eyes grew wide with surprise. He thought about what Drake had told him about the organs inside of him that would change so they could have a child together.

“I didn’t realize that it would cause you pain, Drake,” Jimmy said softly, leaning over to kiss his temple lightly. “I’m sorry for being upset. I’m also sorry for causing you pain.”

A particularly strong pain shot through Drake’s abdomen, making him gasp with surprise. He pressed his hand against his abdomen to push against the pain. He loved the way Jimmy automatically reached for him and covered his stomach, sliding his hand beneath his tunic and rubbing his stomach in small, soothing circles. The pain lessened immediately. He looked down and saw the blue glow of his healing magic bright around his midsection. He also saw the bright light of Jimmy’s magic that glowed a soft violet color.

“Your magic is joining with mine to help me,” Drake said, smiling when he saw the look of confusion on Jimmy’s face.

“I’m glad, honey,” Jimmy said finally as he realized that he was channeling the healing magic into Drake’s body once again. “Do you think you can make it inside? I don’t think I’ll be able to carry you, big guy.”

Drake smiled and nodded, easing open the passenger door and stepping out. Within seconds, Jimmy was by his side and sliding beneath his arm to shoulder his weight on top of him and lead the way into the house. It wasn’t long before they were inside Jimmy’s bedroom and Jimmy was easing him down onto the bed.
