In a party determined to support the continuation of tax breaks for the richest 1 percent of the American people while the nation struggles to recover from the greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression and the ranks of the middle class continue to shrink while the rich get wealthier, McCain seems to identify with the average American. She wrote, “I have been given every opportunity that anyone could possibly dream of. I was given those opportunities as a result of the hard work from both sides of my family. What struck me more than anything is that for the first time possibly in history, people aren’t being given the same opportunities that my parents and grandparents had.”[12] Again, Meghan McCain seems informed, capable of empathy, and well meaning. She seems infinitely reasonable.
