One of the government contractors we worked with forced me to drive up to the mountain town in Southern California. Not only that but an epic winter storm was forecasted for this weekend. My brother wanted me to check out a few projects for his ‘Save the Earth’ campaign he was running in Big Bear, a few hours north of my San Diego home. He had a killer house overlooking the resort that I could crash at, so maybe a little change of scenery would be good.

My phone rang as I drove toward the mountain, and I answered it through the car speaker.

“Julian.”

“Hey, baby,” a voice whispered seductively through my speaker.

This fucking girl wouldn’t get the hint. I had to go to some dumbass fundraiser earlier this week and made the mistake of calling one of the girls I used to fuck around with. She was the pretty model type, but I was a one-night man. I’d never lied about my intentions, and most of the time, the women I fucked appreciated the night and went about their day. But sometimes, you got clingy ones who couldn’t or wouldn’t take no for an answer.

“Georgia.”

“Want to come to my place tonight? I can even come down and see you.” She practically purred through the phone. It was gross. She tried to come onto me earlier at the event we attended, and honestly, I may have entertained breaking the one-night rule. But between her clinginess and a certain brunette who wouldn’t leave my mind, there was absolutely no way it was physically going to happen.

“No, Georgia. Like I told you, I’m not interested.”

“But did you see how good we looked in the tabloids, baby?” Her purring was becoming an incessant annoyance at this point.

I figured that’s what this was about. She wanted to leverage me for whatever fame she was looking for. It was common, especially in LA, for women at functions to be photographed leaving the event with a rich dude. Again, I often allowed it because the favor was returned. But my cock wouldn’t stop twitching over the complicated yet sweet taste of Tatum.

I put James on Tatum when she left my house. Something about her confession worried me that anything could go wrong at any time. The way tears rolled down her face at the first grasp of my gun made me think what or whoever had happened to her could still be out there. I didn’t know what the fuck possessed me to care after she left my house, but the thought of someone hurting her made my heart clench.

“Baby.” The girl’s whiny voice broke me out of my thoughts.

“I said no, Georgia. Goodbye.”

I hung up but got another alert for an incoming call.

“Handle it yourself,” I gritted out. The GPS alerted me that I would arrive in the next twenty minutes.

“Boss.” Christian had been my bodyguard for five years, and I trusted him entirely. He was a former Navy SEAL, and when he retired, he realized he could make a shitload more in private contracting.
