Chapter 4

As the afternoon goes on my parents and Alexia and her brand new wife also join us. Alexia finally met the woman of her dreams while she was on a training and one of her people fell ill. The woman is an army nurse and recently moved closer so she could be with Alexia full time. It’s been just a few weeks since their wedding and the two are still glowing when they look at each other.

It’s nice to see her this happy, especially since she was not very pleased that I met Ethan so soon. Though she never showed her displeasure openly. I knew it was hard for her for a while, but she quickly took to my lovely man and they’ve been good friends since, too good sometimes if you ask me.

Dad and Alexia are manning the barbecue, bickering about anything they can. It’s too hot, not hot enough, there is too much on it, or not enough. It means they’re having fun, which anyone can see, so they’re just letting them be.

Mum is off to the side with Evie and Holly, animatedly talking, the other two female Alphas and the only female human in the company. I’m not sure I want to know what they’re talking about, they scare me when they’re together like that. But scare me in a good way, they are a force to be reckoned with.

Ethan comes back from the house, Levi trailing after him. They smile and I just want to take a picture of them together. The setting sun is reflected in the windows behind them and they look like they’re walking towards me from the sunset.

I open my arms and Ethan pushes himself close, letting me hold him tightly.

“It’s a good night.” Ethan murmurs against my chest.

“Yes, it is. It’s a beautiful night.” I leave a kiss on his head. We’re just standing there, holding each other, enjoying the company of friends and family.

Then there is a sound, just a small one but I know exactly what it means.

When we look down, Levi has changed into a wolf pup and yaps as he runs around us. The kid is obviously not tired enough just yet.

Then I look up and see a grey wolf coming around the corner of the guest house, Elias.

Levi dashes at the bigger wolf, his excited yapping nearly eardrum piercing.

Elias pushes at the little pup, teasing him, playing with him, daring him. He looks up at us and I nod. Their favourite place to play on are the fields right behind the garden, the fields and forest that the whole pack shares together. He can take the little one there, it’s not as if anything bad can happen to them while they’re there.

Then two more wolves follow them down to the field, twin wolves that are a slightly darker than their older brother, Chris and Oliver. We’ve barely seen them since they came in here this afternoon, though with a game room like mine, that is not surprising.
