Design/Display Factors

The following factors are important to successful layout and design. Store design is important for both sales and looks. In a museum setting, a significant percentage of the customers don’t know what to expect from the store, so most buying decisions are made on the floor at the time of the visit.

Visitor Approach

All other factors being equal, the best location for the store is on the right side as the visitor approaches the exit from the museum. Ideally, the store should be visible from the museum’s entrance and very prominent at the exit. The first thing visitors see should be attractive and in harmony with the tenor of the museum.
