By Friday, Jase and his blushing bride had developed a routine. They went about their lives, treating the other like a polite stranger and saying little. Rose’s morning sickness was driving him to distraction. The Dom in him needed to make things better for her, regardless of whether theirs was a love match.

Yet it drove him bananas that there was nothing he could do about it except hold her hair back for her and ensure the kitchen was stocked with crackers and tea.

He was still digesting the confirmation that he was going to be a father. There was a part of him that was over the moon about it. Especially given how much he adored his niece and nephew and the fact that his branch of the Ryan family line would continue.

He had taken to sleeping in his study the last few nights because of the temptation Rose presented. She was finally where he’d wanted to get her all those months ago—his bed. Yet her admission that she would be on board with a physical relationship left him floundering.

Because he had felt something for her those many months ago. So much so that he had tried for a month solid to contact her, only to wind up failing.

It left him with a conundrum on how to proceed with Rose. He wanted her. There was no doubt on that front. They were evenly matched in the bedroom. And by Rose’s admission and her responses to him, she might be submissive. The thought of guiding her to explore that side of herself made his entire system come alive.

But he would be a fool for dropping his guard around her and getting close. If they slept together, it was inevitable he would feel things for her. He already did because of their wedding night.

So it begged the question. Could he engage in a physical relationship without treading back down the road where his emotions were involved? Because the thought of opening himself back up after she ghosted him made him want to recoil.

Jase didn’t know the answer. Not when she leveled him with a droll glance and some quip about everything she told him was true. He didn’t know who to believe.

“Hey, Jase.” His executive assistant’s voice came through the intercom.

“Yeah, Sarah?” She was the one who kept him on task and handled his life for him. He didn’t know what he would do without her. Which was why he compensated her well.

“I have Senator Murphy on the line for you.”

He rolled his eyes. He’d wondered when he would hear from the man again after he’d barged into his office the other day. “Thanks, Sarah. I’ll take it in here. You can head to lunch if you’d like.”

“Thanks, boss. Want me to pick you up something?”

“Nah. I’ll leave for lunch in a bit. But thanks for asking.”

“It’s what I do,” she murmured and disconnected the intercom.

Jase picked up the receiver and clicked line one. “Senator, to what do I owe the pleasure.”

“Jase, my
