Cooper arrived home feeling like he and Tessa had made real progress last night. Her doubts about him and his ability to stick made him want to prove her wrong. She made him want to be a better man, to be someone she could count on, not just for a handful of orgasm-infused nights, but for the long haul.

Hunter stood in the kitchen watching the coffee brew. His brother was not a morning person and tended to grunt responses before his first cup.

His brother shot him a lopsided grin when he waltzed into the room. “Was beginning to wonder if you were going to make it home.”

“I got caught up.” He shrugged and set the box of donuts on the counter.

“Uh huh.” Hunter slanted him a look as he poured coffee into a mug.

“I stayed with Tessa. I need to change clothes and head back to her bakery. She needs help fixing the bathroom at her shop.”

“Is that what they’re calling it these days?” Hunter peeked inside the box and helped himself to one of the donuts.

“Holy shit.” Hunter groaned around a mouthful. “Marry her.”

Cooper barked a laugh at his brother’s sentiment. “Why?”

“Because if this”—he held up the half-eaten donut—“is something to look forward to, why wouldn’t you? Or hell, send her my way. Any woman who can cook like this is someone I would lock down in a heartbeat.”

“Puh-lease. You’re an even bigger manwhore than I am. Like you could actually commit to one woman.”

Hunter shrugged and snagged another donut. “Stranger things have happened. Besides, look at you, being all noble and shit. It’s serious between you and this Tessa.”

“I’d like it to be. She’s different. I can’t explain it. And I’m not going to try and define it, other than I want her in my life on a permanent basis.” He rubbed at his chest. Their coming together felt monumental.

“You do realize you have never said anything like this regarding a woman before, right?” Hunter studied him as if he had suddenly developed antlers and was a different species entirely.

“I know. And right now, she needs my help fixing something at her bakery.”

“Are you going to skip out on poker night?”

“Nope. I’ll be there tonight.” But he would have to explain it to Tessa. He wouldn’t want her to think he was blowing her off after last night.

“I’m going to ask her to cater Mom and Dad’s anniversary party.” He said this as Hunter snagged a third donut and began happily scarfing it down.

“I am so game for that. Even if it costs us a fortune. It’ll be worth every penny,” he replied around a bite.

Cooper snagged a donut for himself, even though he’d already had three sitting in her kitchen at the bakery. “I need to change and grab my tools.”

“Wish we could have her cater the poker game tonight. Would be a step up from chips and dip.”

“I could see if she has any cookies she would recommend.”

“Mmm hmm, do that. Man, these are good. Gonna have to add extra cardio to work these off, but they’re so worth it.
