Chapter Seven

“Kind of weird, being back home, I mean,” Kendrick said.

Roman squeezed the smaller hand of his mate. He felt the little dragon’s pulse pick up at the touch as he shyly looked up at him.

No matter how many times they held each other or walked together, he always had that adorable, shy look on his face. It never lasted very long once Roman got his clothes off.

“Do you still think of this place as our home?” Roman asked, carefully keeping his voice neutral.

“Our old home,” Kendrick clarified, squeezing Roman’s hand back as they walked together.

“You two aren’t going to start making out in front of us or something, are you?”

“Fuck off, Clatcher,” Roman snapped, but he couldn’t help but smile as he elbowed the other large dragon walking next to him.

Craig was on Kendrick’s side, and both men were taking their job of protecting Kendrick so seriously that they were doing it even when Roman was clearly around to watch over his mate himself.

“Do you guys have to stick so close? I’m right here, you know,” Roman said, and he slung his arm around Kendrick’s shoulder, as if that would prove to the two men that he was perfectly capable of defending the both of them.

Clatcher shrugged, and he grinned such a stupid, asshole-ish grin that Roman almost wanted to punch the man. He was the type of dragon who wore a lot of leather. He had spikey red hair that was in no way his natural color. It was way too damned bright for one thing, and he was almost as young as Kendrick himself at fifty-five, but he looked a good thirty human years old.

He’d also been in love with Roman at one time. Roman knew this even though Clatcher had been respectful enough to not say anything to his superior, and he certainly looked happy for Roman right now.

Craig was the one who finally answered, pulling a lollipop, of all things, out of his mouth as he did. “Aris told us to keep an eye on the both of you, so that’s what we’re going to do.”

“I think you’re both just enjoying the fact that I’m not your superior anymore. A little too much,” Roman added.

Both dragon warriors grinned at each other. The shits.

When they finally arrived at Roman’s former bedroom, that was where he drew the line in the sand. He wasn’t letting either man inside.

“I can check the room for threats on my own,” Roman said, pushing back Craig before the brat could try and get in or something.

“And no listening to us having sex!” Kendrick singsonged.

The look on Craig’s face was priceless. Clatcher just turned his head away and avoided eye contact with Roman.

Maybe he wasn’t as over Roman as he’d originally thought.

Poor man. Roman felt a spear strike him right in the heart for the other man, but there was nothing to be done about that at the moment. He was in love with Kendrick, and Clatcher was just a friend and a former colleague.
