Summary

We’ve spent time in this section looking at our values, at how much we gain – in varying ways – from working hard on mastering our performance skills, at how we envision our future, and at how we can ensure that the goals we’re setting in order to create that future are positive and wholly beneficial to us. It is really important that you have a sense that the work you put into your art pays off in ways that go beyond making you a better performer. It heightens your self-esteem, it broadens your knowledge and – as we’ve seen – it serves to prepare you for whatever the future may bring. This section forms the basis for all the other work we’ll be doing in the next chapters of the toolkit, which are all about how to make our approach to auditioning and performing as confident and skilful as it can be. Our next step is to look at how we can create a strategy for developing our skills further.
