CHAPTER NINETEEN
MASON
A month had passed since Rylie had moved into my house. Temporarily, according to her. A full month of her falling asleep in my arms and waking her up with my head buried between her legs.
Easily my favorite part of the day.
After I made her breakfast that day, we went to the apartment to grab more clothes and her personal items. When we got there, âSlutâ was written across the door in bright red paint.
It freaked Rylie out. I assumed it was Jake because he still hadnât been fucking located. We issued a warrant for his arrest and he stopped showing up to work and hadnât been back at his apartment.
He didnât appear in court for the restraining order, so they issued it to Rylie.
Thank god.
It didnât put me any more at ease knowing he was still out there, though.
Not to fucking mention there had been two more bodies found. Something that didnât sit right with me. How many more times could he get away with it? Eventually, heâd slip up.
Plus, it was making Rylie even more nervous. She didnât want to believe that Jake could commit murder, but I studied the cases continuously. Everything fit the timeline.
The first girl was attacked the week they broke up. The first unhinged murder happened the night he saw us together at Last Shot. These last two had been closer together than the rest. If I had to guess, itâs because he knew Rylie had moved in with me.
She didnât go anywhere by herself anymore. Not because of me, though I agreed fully, but because her dad recommended she lean on the rest of us. I took her to work and picked her up. My Captain allowed me to work the same shift as her so that I could keep an eye out. He agreed that if Jake was going to surface; it was most likely going to be for Rylie.
Which pissed me the fuck off.
She was slowly becoming my entire world, and Iâd be damned if I let anything happen to her.
âYou about ready, Babe?â I called up the stairs.
âJust about,â she yelled back, and I heard a door shut. I chuckled under my breath. My girl was always late. Tonight was the last football game of the regular season for Asher and her dad, so we would be there to show our support.
Rylieâs footsteps sounded down the stairs. A hand gripped the wooden railing, and she flung herself around the corner.
I swallowed my tongue.
Breathtaking. Her long ponytail lifted the hair off the slim column of her neck. The Blue and gold football t-shirt clung to her body in the most delicious way, her breasts straining against the fabric. Creamy skin peeked through the skin-tight, distressed jeans. I itched to run my hands all over her.
My dick jumped in my jeans.
Although it had been a month since the first time I tasted her, weâve yet to have sex. Weâve talked about it.
At length.
We decided we would wait until Rylie was comfortable enough to show me every inch of her beautiful body.
