“You look beautiful, Ani.” Calum wasn’t holding back from complimenting my looks the moment we settled into the backseat of the car and his driver, Ricardo, took the route toward the Dr. Alison’s office. Yep, the same doctor who he sent to Meggie’s house, disregarding my wishes, that I didn’t want to have a check-up. She didn’t know yet that I was pregnant, but we trusted her to give us a recommendation for an obstetrician we could trust during the next few months.

“Thank you, Calum, and you look handsome and suave in your suit.” It was not mere flattery. He really looked all snatched and gorgeous, dripping with overflowing masculinity in the suit. And even though wearing classic clothes was his work wardrobe and because he was such a workaholic, I had seen him wearing such kinds of clothes more than sweatpants, I still find him attractive regardless how familiar his image was.

“Really?” He flirtatiously raised his eyebrow at me. He was asking not because he was doubting the authenticity of my comment, but because he wanted to play in this game of cat and mouse. But I was determined to remain serious. Or at least that was my original plan.

“Yeah, really.” I gave him a brief response, but a tiny smile still shined on my closed lips. I decided to look through the window and pretend to busy myself by examining the familiar busy streets of Manhattan.

With the corner of my eye, I saw how Calum put his big hand in the middle of us. I sensed with my woman’s intuition that he wanted to touch me, and this gesture was reinforcing my feelings. Now, different from the times when we were together and sat in the middle of the back seat, cuddling and kissing like crazy hormonal teenagers that we weren’t and kept disregarding if we were making pure Ricardo, who was a short stocky married man in his middle forties, and who actually had two teenage daughters, uncomfortable with our passion-full sounds, we were sitting very far from each other. At least I kept maximum physical distance.

“So, are you finding the scenery interesting?” Calum apparently had had enough with my pretenses. No, I didn’t find the scenery interesting at all. No kind of scenery, no kind of anything would be more interesting-looking than the man than sat next to me. The father of somebody who was growing in my womb right at that moment.

I exhaled defeatedly and turned my head and consequently my eyes landed where I wanted them to gaze at. “You caught me, Calum. I am not enjoying the scenery at all.”

“You meant that scenery over there, right? Asking just to make sure.” He pointed in a direction and asked with a laugh that was as authentic as my earlier staring to this pointed scenery.
