LUNA RAE

Our night out is not entirely for me. And his cryptic answers don’t clarify things for me except for one.

He’s not comfortable sharing his life with me.

He admitted it in so many ways. It’s not even news to me.

I don’t know if it’s me in particular, or he regards everybody with suspicion.

He begins to pull away from me, so I touch his arm and make him stay.

I push up on my toes, wind my arms around his neck, and kiss his lips, his response lagging.

It’s my turn to break away from him and his turn to make me stay.

He envelopes me in his embrace, his mouth coming to me, hungrier than I expected it to be.

Within moments, I tense in his arms, and he’s hard against my stomach, our lips and tongues caught into a feast.

We break the kiss after a few good moments and stare at each other with drunken eyes.

“We need a fucking room,” he rasps.

Without another word, he takes my hand and fishes out his phone from his pocket.

He talks on the phone while I stay quiet all the way to the elevator before we descend and step onto the first floor.

The party is underway, the music beat electrifying the crowd.

The lights, the sound, and the energy ram through my senses, stimulating my brain, sweeping my blood, and altering my perception.

As the lights throb above us and the beat thrums across my skin, I focus on the smallest details–– his firm touch on me and his stern expression on his face while he keeps talking on the phone.

Maybe he should continue his conversation in a quieter space, but soon he ends the call.

We’re on our way to the bar when a man approaches him and we stall again.

They talk. I look at their lips, unable to focus.

He glances at me a couple of times, his hand still locked with mine, his eyes glinting as if he knows what’s going through my head.

Their conversation continues, so he orders drinks.

If I get anything in me right now other than food or him... I’ll probably lose it.

I sip it anyway. Bad decision, but who is counting?

It’s sweet, and light and I want to ask him what it is when my eyes can’t lift from his lips, my brain frozen.

Maybe I should dance instead of staring and hinting that I can’t pull myself together.

My drink meets the bar counter before I spin around and join the crowd not far from him and his interlocutor.

The music seals my fate.

Once I begin moving my body, and the beat starts pounding in my brain, nothing stops me from sliding into a lust-induced trance.

I raise my arms and move my hips, my body turning into a weapon of seduction.

I can’t say a circle forms around me, but more men seem to be dancing closer to me than before.

Some have their eyes on me, while I have my eyes on him.

The circumstances register with him.

And I swear he doesn’t seem to be in a hurry to come to me and yank me out of my daze.
