Chapter Eight
WORK was a bitch. Daron’s head pounded, and it
seemed like every second customer wanted something
they didn’t serve or had a complaint about something
they had served. By the time lunch was over, Daron
had had enough. He wanted to walk out and never
come back, but he couldn’t. He owned the bloody
business and had to make it work. On top of that, his
damned hair felt stringy and limp and kept snagging in
the tie at the back of his head. The whole day was just
too hard. It wasn’t the hangover so much as it was
Rebel. His best friend, but not anymore. Perhaps Rebel
was right. Maybe Daron realy did need to just stop. He
scowled at the cake he was plating. How stopping
would help him find The One, he didn’t know, but it
had to be better than raping his best friend.
But what else could he do? He’d tried clubs, but
everyone there was looking for tricks, nothing more.
He’d even tried Rebel’s barista course to meet people,
but most of them were girls, and the rest—so not
Daron’s type. Good for a fuck or two but never tal
enough or old enough.
And Rebel’s idea of not having sex until he got to
know someone! Daron snorted, then quickly looked
around to make sure none of the customers heard him.
That was the only way he could be sure they were
compatible. If the sex was good, they’d find something
to talk about later, and if they were Daron’s type, then
everything would be fantastic.
And they’d love him forever.
The day dragged on. At three, Daron told Sarah
he was on a break and went to the hairdresser. He
couldn’t stand his hair a moment longer. A good head
massage would calm him no end, and a new style would
give him a lift. Make him feel good about himself.
Anything would be better than what he had so far.
His usual hairdresser was fuly booked, and Daron
simply didn’t want to wait, so he went to the one beside
the nail place. He’d heard they had a new guy who’d
won Apprentice of the Year a couple of years running.
He walked in and froze.
Standing in front of him, staring with equal horror,
was Holden’s twink. He was taler than Daron had
thought he was, only a few inches shorter than Daron.
His blond hair looked like it might be natural because
his eyelashes and eyebrows were the same pale color.
The pink tips al over his head weren’t natural, but
damn if they didn’t suit him. They made his gray eyes
sparkle, even as they glared at Daron, and perfectly
matched the hot pink nail polish on his short fingernails
and the writing on his white T-shirt. His jeans were
black and so soft and tight Daron could see the shape
of the head of his cock nestled at the top of his left
thigh. His joggers matched his shirt.
The silence stretched between them until Daron
had to speak or leave. He’d be damned if he’d let a
pink twink do him out of the haircut he needed to find
equilibrium.
“Can you fit in a haircut now?” he asked, aware
his voice sounded beligerent.
The twink turned to check on the other
hairdressers. They were both busy, and he was
obviously not.
