Chapter 16

Riley

“Fucking bastard!” I kicked the back door for the hundredth time, frustrated tears streaming down my face at my futile attempts to get out of the car. I was going to kill Kai when I got out of here, I was going to murder him with my own hands. In fact, I hoped Hendrix got to him first.

I regretted the thought as soon as it formed. I didn’t mean it, of course I didn’t want Hendrix to kill Kai, but how dare he lock me in here and run off to play the hero.

Giving up on my attempt to break free, I collapsed on the back seat, lying down to stare at the roof. All manners of thought circled my head.

What if we were too late and Hendrix took Angel?

What if something happened to Kai?

Why was this taking so damn long?

I don’t know how long I lay there, alternating between cursing Kai, and praying he was okay when a noise caught my attention from outside. I bolted upright, only to immediately duck down again when Hendrix came flying out of the club, phone raised to his ear and gun in hand.

He was too far for me to hear what he was shouting, but boy, did he look mad. He was fixated on getting the hell out of here, without even looking around, he jumped straight into a parked car and sped out of the parking lot.

I waited expectantly, my gaze fixed on the door he’d come from. Surely if he left, Kai or Miles, or even Danny would be right behind him. But minutes passed without a sign from anyone. Thoughts ran rampant in my mind again, had Hendrix killed them all?

Damn Kai for locking me in this fucking vehicle.

I was about to launch another attack on the back window to try and break it when the most beautiful sight I’d ever seen emerged from the club. In an instant, all my anger and frustration disappeared, replaced by the most overwhelming relief I had ever felt.

Air in my lungs whooshed out as Kai marched determinedly out of Club Sin with Angel held tightly in his strong embrace. Her arms clutched to his neck, legs wrapped around his waist, and her head buried in the crook of his neck.

My two worlds had finally collided.

A choked sob escaped when relief turned to panic and fear. The two people I loved the most were covered in blood.

My body acted on instinct, desperate to get to them. I slammed my fists against the solid glass as I screamed bloody murder to be let out of the car. The pain in my knuckles barely registered, all I could think of was getting to them.

Seeing my panic, Kai reached into his pocket with one hand and pulled out the keys, keeping the other firmly wrapped around Angel. The second the doors clicked open, I leaped out and sprinted over, ripping Angel out of Kai’s arms. Blind panic consumed me as I ran my hands over every inch of her, trying to find the source of the blood.
