Tom’s entire world froze for one long, dizzying moment.

Lana’s lips were hot where she pressed them against his, the taste of beer lingering on the plump contours. Her fingers shook on his skin. Tears glistened in her eyes and trembled on her lashes as she gazed at him, the jade depths full of remorse.

Tom’s chest constricted under a battery of emotions.

Shock. Desire. Hope. Anger.

He went with anger.

Breaking the kiss, Tom grabbed Lana’s wrists in a biting grip and yanked her hands from his face. “You’re playing with fire, Lana,” he hissed.

For a moment, he thought she’d back down. And with that came a silent scream of denial.

Something replaced the regret and self-condemnation in Lana’s eyes as they stared wordlessly at each other in the deadly stillness, her pulse fluttering wildly against his fingers where he still held her wrists. Something that scared the ever-living shit out of Tom and made his cock throb in anticipation at the same time.

Oh fuck.

He knew that look. This was Lana when she decided to be single-minded about something. When she focused her entire being on one goal and went after it with quasi-religious zeal. Resolute. Uncompromising. Unwavering.

It would take God or the Devil himself to stop her when she was like this.

Lana leaned forward, her eyes blazing so bright Tom thought it would scorch him. Her hot breath washed across his lips a second before she captured the bottom one between her perfect, white teeth. She tugged it for long, sinful seconds and released it with a wet pop.

“Burn me,” she said.
