How do you involve the youth in nonviolent resistance?

MA:

I think our role in the camp is to try to awaken the youth inside the camp. But again, the Israelis don’t let anyone give them hope. This camp is sixty-six acres, and 5,500 people live here, surrounded by a wall on three sides, a camp on the other side, and a military barrier on the other. Peaceful resistance doesn’t work inside the camp.

Youths in secondary school are trying to leave, but we insist that they stay. We provide leadership courses for them to be active in society. After pursuing education and entering universities, you don’t free Palestine by throwing rocks. With an education, you can become a doctor or an engineer, free your land, and make a change in your reality. Change comes only from the youths when they grow up.
