The Victorian wonder that was the Park Hotel and its gardens was destroyed in the worst fire in Hot Springs’ history. On September 5, 1913, a fire began with a charcoal iron in a cottage near the rail station, and before it could be extinguished 50 blocks were lost. The greatest loss in this destruction was the Park; its ruins are shown here the morning after the blaze, as a mother and her children view the aftermath of the “ten million dollar fire.”

In 1930 the eight-story “New” Park Hotel was built at 210 Fountain, behind the Arlington Hotel. The Park advertised, in this c. 1940 card, a roof garden and a solarium. The hotel would later be partially converted into a retirement home, but remains today among the lodging choices in the Spa City.
