Chapter Ten

Salvador

Lany was talking with Eddie and Lyn when I walked up. I smiled at each of the men before pinning my gaze on my love. “Hey, caro.”

Lany’s eyes narrowed.

Yeah, he wasn’t stupid. He knew something was up.

“Clarke called for backup, so officers should be here soon to take over the scene. After you give your statements to the investigators, Clarke is going to take you, Eddie, and Lyn back to the penthouse.”

“Where are you going to be?”

I couldn’t keep my gaze from going to Eddie. It was an involuntary gesture, but I was helpless to stop it. I was surprised when Lany just sighed. I had expected him to get angry at me at the very least.

“You’ll be careful?” Lany asked.

“Of course.”

Like that was even a question.

“I’ll be home by dinner.”

Lany’s arms crossed. “I’m ordering out.”

“Call Mario’s.”

Lany’s beautiful amber-green eyes rolled dramatically, but I was too overjoyed that the man wasn’t fighting me to be upset.

“I won’t be long,” I promised. “I don’t want you going anywhere without Clarke, okay?”

Lany frowned.

“This is important, Lany.” I glanced at Eddie again, but just for a moment. “I think there is something going on here, and I need to figure out what it is. I need you to be somewhere safe.”

“Okay, Sal.” Lany sounded a lot more accepting at that point.

“I’ll tell you everything when I get home, promise.”

“Is there anything we can do?”

“Don’t talk to your uncle until I get this figured out.”

Lany blinked at me.

“Lany, this is the second time in just a couple of weeks that you, Eddie, and Lyn were attacked. I don’t think it’s a coincidence.”

His eyebrows shot up. “Seriously?”

“Seriously.”

“Geez, I just thought it was dumb luck.”

I shook my head. “Not even you are that lucky.”

I laughed when Lany’s eyes narrowed at me. Sometimes, he was really fun to rile. Then there were other times when I knew I was going to pay for being overbearing.

I hoped this wasn’t one of them.

“Just stay with Clarke, Lany, okay?”

“Yeah, yeah,” Lany grumbled.

I smiled because I knew from his tone that Lany wasn’t really upset with me. If he had been, I would probably be dodging flying objects right about now.

I leaned over and pressed my lips to Lany’s. One touch and I knew a simple kiss good-bye wasn’t going to cut it. I needed something a little bit more. I needed to feel that special connection I shared with Lany.

I wrapped my arms around Lany as I stepped in between his thighs, pressing close to him. The man could have no doubt whatsoever what kind of affect he was having on me.

“You know I love you, right?”

“I know,” Lany replied as he gazed up at me with a twinkle in his amber-green eyes. “Maybe when you get home you can show me how much.”

There was no doubt what he was referring to. I could feel Lany hardness pressing against me when he moved. It was a gentle shift, body to body.

“Would you like that, caro?” I murmured for his ears only.
