B. 24 August 1987, Jesenice, Slovenia, Yugoslavia. In 2006, Anže Kopitar became the first Slovenian to play in the National Hockey League (NHL). He plays center and left wing for the Los Angeles Kings. As one of the top-scoring players in the NHL, he has led the Kings in scoring for four consecutive seasons. Kopitar recorded his first career hat trick on 22 October 2009, against the Dallas Stars, and he helped the Kings win, 5–4, in overtime. On 15 March 2011, Kopitar played his 325th consecutive NHL game and set a new record for the Kings, passing Marcel Dionne. His streak ended at 300 games when he broke his ankle. He also represented Slovenia at the International Ice Hockey Federation World Ice Hockey Championships. In his career to date, Kopitar has played in 475 regular-season NHL games and recorded 163 goals and 271 assists, for a total of 434 points. In his 26 Stanley Cup Playoff games, Kopitar had 10 goals and 15 assists, for a total of 25 points. On 11 June 2012, when the Los Angeles Kings defeated the New Jersey Devils (4–2), he became the first Slovenian player to win the Stanley Cup. Kopitar helped his team win the Stanley Cup by scoring the winning overtime goal in the first game. He and teammate Dustin Brown were a strong scoring duo for Los Angeles, each scoring eight goals and getting 12 assists during the 2011–2012 playoffs.
