"I need to talk to you about Katalia," Linda says when I walk into the house, fresh from football practice. She sets down her pen, pushing the papers she's grading aside.

I quirk a brow. "What about her? Is everything alright? Did she do anything?"

She shakes her head. "No, cabron. Stop getting so defensive. Relax."

I throw my bag on the couch and cross my arms. "I'm making sure my family is safe, and you are my family. She isn't. She was loyal to the enemy four months ago, and if he hadn't done what he did, she would still be loyal to him."

"I get that, but she isn't, and I think you were too quick to judge her, Leo."

"I don't trust her. I'm sorry. If you and Colton hadn't dug up her past, she would have never told me."

"I don't think that is something you just go around sharing with people. I know you are looking out for us like you always do, but I just want to make sure." She winces.

I get that Katalia would want to keep that part of herself hidden. I have shit I don't want people to know too. Dark depraved things I haven't been open about. But that is not the part I'm upset about. It is part of who she was with and who she was loyal to that has me questioning her motives. She waited for him. She'd loved him since she was a teenager. His ride or die.

"About?" I ask, taking a seat.

"Are you interested in Katalia, Leo?" Linda looks me in the eyes. The same look I gave her more than a year ago when she was messed up about Ramon and Colton.

"What do you mean interested?"

"Besides sex. Besides your normal no-strings relationships you have with women."

Am I? Do I like Katalia physically? Hell yes. She's fine. I love her lips' taste and her skin's softness, but am I serious about her? No. I can't be. I'm not built that way for any woman. I love to have sex with beautiful women and treat them with respect sexually, but I have no business being with someone like Katalia.

"Are you asking if I'm serious about her in the sense of making her mine?"

She nods. "Yeah, that is what I'm asking."

I snort. "I know I have to get married at some point, but it would never be with someone like her. It's not that I don't find her attractive. I don't mean to be a dick, but I find many women attractive. The answer is no. I have no interest in making Katalia a permanent thing in my life. Sex is all I can offer. It is what I have always, only been capable of, Linda."

Linda looks away, and I don't like the feeling I get when she does. It's like impending doom. "Why?"

"I'm just checking up on you. Maybe I was hoping she was different."

I chuckle. "No, Diosa. She is different but a possible threat. A good-looking one but still a threat. I still haven't found the right one to marry and have a kid with.
