Some people want to have an ADC but are fearful of actually seeing or hearing a deceased loved one while they are awake. So they will often ask for an indirect form of contact, as Katherine did, and are frequently rewarded in a nonthreatening way.
Alexis is a systems analyst in Washington. Her husband and she experienced these physical phenomena approximately 3 weeks after their daughter, Jeanne, died of cancer at age 31:
It was about 11:30 at night and my husband, Rick, and I were in bed. He was sleeping and I was looking through a magazine. All of a sudden, the halogen lamp beside the bed flickered. Then, a second time, it almost went out and came back on. Halogen lamps never flicker – never!
I stopped reading and heard music playing. The music even woke Rick up, and he said, “Is there a car outside with its radio on or something?” I kind of smiled, thinking, “No, that’s not it.” I got out of bed and went downstairs to the living room.
Our stereo was playing the song “How Do You Talk to an Angel?” There is no way that stereo could have come on by itself! My husband is very fussy and goes around at night and checks everything. I knew then that all this had something to do with Jeanne. It was soothing to know she was communicating to us in these ways.
Later I asked Rick, “Would you have believed me if you hadn’t heard the song on the stereo too?” He said, “Yes, I would, but probably nobody else will believe us!”
