Chapter 6: Marco
Ugh, Jason was so infuriating. He could at least talk to me and explain what the fuck he wanted. If I had a clue what his issue was maybe, just maybe, I could fix it or at least come up with some satisfactory compromise. He was being so unrealistic.
I stormed down the hall to my office. Slamming doors and punching walls as I went. Once I got to where I had intended, I wanted to storm back out again, angry because I was in that room. I couldn’t be around him like this. I couldn’t trust myself to not hurt him. I didn’t want to hurt him, but as angry as I was, I was afraid I might slip and do something disastrous.
So, he was mad about not being able to transport in and out of the castle. It really was for his well-being. Tracking him down using our bond is extremely taxing on me, and, if he were injured, there is no guarantee that once I found him I could even protect him. I would be too weak. He probably didn’t understand how valuable he was. If he wanted to leave, all he needed to do was tell me, and he could have gone. I would have insisted he take a guard, but really his father should have insisted on that a long time ago. People would love to get their hands on a demigod.
“Gerald!” I knew he would hear me , and screaming felt good right now.
“Sir, what can I do?” Gerald entered in mere seconds of being called, clipboard in hand.
“I want you to resume your regular responsibilities as majordomo tomorrow. The fund-raiser must go off without a hitch. Do you understand?” I asked, but I knew he understood. There was nothing I could ask him to do that he would not get perfect.
“Of course, sir. Will Jason be following me around again tomorrow?”
I tilted my head to look at him. When he said nothing, I raised an eyebrow hoping he would elaborate.
“Excuse me, I meant to say shadowing. ‘Following around’ made it seem like he had no purpose.”
“Ah, I understand, but no, Jason will not be joining you tomorrow.”
“Very well. It may be for the best for tomorrow anyway. With so many last minute details, I am afraid I would not be very pleasant to bearound.”
I studied him as we spoke. Something seemed different about him. He didn’t seem to notice I was watching him as he scribbled furiously on his notepad. Although the world was digitalized, Gerald said keeping a notepad was faster.
“Mr. Pace, I need you to verify some numbers for tomorrow and also sign these POs.”
He stepped behind the desk next to me and laid several pieces of paper down. “Sign these three, and I can get the numbers from you tomorrow morning.” I signed his papers and handed them back without looking up at him.
Gerald placed his hand on my arm. “Sir, is everything okay? You seem very distraught. Is
