Chapter Seven

“We need to get to my pack lands,” Nathan said. They hurried to get out of dodge. There was no way this would be fixed. His family hated anything paranormal that wasn’t a wolf. He wasn’t about to give up Demend for anyone. His family could growl all they wanted but they were the only family he had beyond his mate. He had to make sure his pack was safe, and then they could worry about saving his mate’s life. He would end up mated to an Elf. It seemed fitting since his lineage had been the one to turn against the elves in the first place during the Great War. His family was proud of the fact, but Nathan felt more ashamed than he ever had before. Nathan reached through the bond to feel Demend’s concern. They needed a plan.

“So they took our pack lands, now what?” Leif asked, buffing his coiled muscles in anger. Nathan knew Leif well, since they had grown up together. When Nathan became Alpha it didn’t come as a surprise that Leif had become Beta almost immediately followed by Cole. It had been one of the better choices as far as the position had been. Leif and Cole had proved to be more than capable of the position.

“We need to find a new place for the pack to reside,” Nathan said simply, though it was an impossible situation.

“I have lands. In fact, I have more lands than the Wolf Council combined,” Demend interrupted.

Nathan stared at his mate in surprise. Though he should have known with his sires being who they were, and maybe even his parents, land wouldn’t be an issue.

Can we keep a pack on your lands? Nathan asked curiously.

Yes, they can even hunt, but they would have to respect it is on the fringe of Elvin lands. It’s part of the Guardian lands now, but if they will swear to the forest to protect her, she will protect and provide for them, Demend said in the Elvin logic that made Nathan smile.

You’d do that for my pack? Nathan felt a log of emotion lodge in his throat.

What’s mine is yours, and what’s yours is mine.

That’s good enough for me. I’ll have to tell them, and I only plan on taking those that want to come. Those that wish to stay should stay. We need to get there quickly, since the council will send guards.

“I got you covered,” Demend said as he started jogging toward the front gates. He passed the guards without even stopping, leaping into the air and shifting with such ease that Nathan was jealous. He was a quick Shifter among wolves, but it appeared that dragons shifted easier than wolves. Leif smiled as Demend hunched down and motioned to follow him. Leif climbed up his back, seating himself in between the spikes. Nathan followed Leif onto his mate, carefully stepping so not to hurt him. Finally reaching the break in the spikes, Nathan eased himself behind Leif.

Use your legs to hold you in place.
