Chapter 8

Antoine hadn’t seen it coming. His aloof mind was focused on what he would do next to find Caleb when someone ran up to him, picked him up in a bear hug, and twirled him around. Only when warm, supple lips brushed his did he realize who it was. He could never forget those luscious, firm, and sultry lips ever.

Only Caleb Pride’s tempting kisses could turn Antoine’s legs to jelly and make his heart fibrillate.

Instinctively, he cupped Caleb’s cheeks with his hands and kissed him back feverishly. He couldn’t contain his jubilation of seeing him again, either. Oh, he’d missed him so much!

When Caleb pulled his lips away and stared into his eyes, Antoine saw a mixture of joy and sorrow reflected in them.

“You’re okay,” Caleb whispered still holding him tight.

Antoine didn’t ask to be released. Being in the strong wolf shifter’s arms brought back wonderful memories.

“Yeah, I am. I can’t believe you’re here. I’ve been looking for you everywhere.”

Caleb released his hold around Antoine’s body. “I just came from the old headquarters and saw the devastation. Luke said Richard is dead. What happened?”

Antoine placed his hand on the small of Caleb’s back and guided him to a table that had become vacant just now. “Come, let’s sit and talk.”

Once Caleb perched on the wooden chair facing him, he stated, “I’m going to order a veggie burger and beer. I’m starving. You want something, too?”

“Yeah, I’ll have the same.”

Antoine motioned for one of the waiters to come over to take their order. “We’ll have two veggie burgers and two beers please.”

Caleb stared at the waiter leaving, then asked leaning in closer, “What happened up there?”

Antoine sighed. “A group of vampires attacked us. First they set bombs off in two locations, and while we were recovering from the shock of the explosions, they swarmed in on us and attacked.

“Richard died in one of those explosions, along with Rick and John Fetter, and Jack Martar.

“Vince Sutton, Emilio Hargro, Lydia Cossier, and Marco Lapointe died in the attack afterward.”

Caleb’s brows furrowed. “I can’t believe they’re gone,” he murmured.

“Neither can I,” Antoine confessed. “I was a fool to have believed in Simon.”

Caleb’s head jerked back and he frowned. “Simon? What has he got to do with what happened?”

Antoine gulped, trying to hold back the tears that threatened to break loose.

“He was to blame for everything that happened,” he rasped. “The bastard told them where our headquarters were situated.”

Caleb’s eyes practically popped out of his sockets in his apparent disbelief. “Why on earth would he do that? Did they capture him and torture him to get that information?”

“No, he sold the intel to the highest paying bidder.”

Caleb’s hands fisted. Then he slammed the table. It shook with the force. People at adjacent tables turned to look at the ruckus before turning back to whatever they were doing.

“That asshole! I’m going to kill him!”

“You’ll have to get in line behind me. Once I find him, I’m going to skin him alive.”

Lowering his gaze, Antoine began to shred the paper napkin in his grasp.
