After planting, smooth the surface with a

board, or the back of a spade, and water

every day at sun-down for about two weeks,

and in dry weather throughout the summer.

The date given for planting the seeds of

perennials ranges from the first week in

April to the last week in July. Each per-

son has a different opinion, and follows his

own bent. Some transplant but once and

allow the plants to remain over the winter

in the seed or nursery bed, moving them to

the border in the following spring. Others

transplant two or three times and al-

ways plant them in the border early in Oc-

tober.
