BLUE LINE

The term blue line, as it applies to comics, is a carryover from the pre-personal computer age. Artists used light blue pencils and markers to make construction underdrawings of figures and compositions. When the drawings were finalized, the artists would complete their illustrations in pencil or ink on top of the blue structural drawings. The blue lines would disappear as if by magic when they were photocopied. Erasers weren’t necessary.

4. The C (cyan), M (magenta), Y (yellow), and K (black) channels are located in the bottom-right section of this window. Change the C channel to 18%, change the M to 7%, and set the other channels to 0%. There is a lot of latitude here; as long as you zero out the K channel, you can ink the page and drop the other colors out later by returning to these settings.
